For the execution of a masterplan at the Shell site in Ghent, a new parking lot, gatehouse with lockers and roads were designed, covering a total area of 10.000 m2. Due to local circumstances, an advanced soil model in 3D was used to accurately estimate the excavation volumes and to design a comprehensive rain water infiltration and buffer system. The intention was to maximize the natural infiltration of water and to re-use it in the gatehouse. The gatehouse was completely modelled in BIM in order to ensure a perfect coordination between the different disciplines: architecture, stability, HVAC and electricity. BM Engineering was responsible for the detailed engineering and tender documents of all disciplines for the entire masterplan and supported the Owner with the procurement and construction.
